Tripod Help Please Well after about two months of researching and trying to pick the right tripod for my needs, I have narrowed my selections down some. I really like the Gitzo Explorer Series of Tripods, except for their price! Then I saw Giottos Tripods on e-bay, and they look almost the same as Gitzo's but less costly. But I can't find any reviews on these tripods. Does anyone out there own one of these, and if so how are they compaired to the Gitzo's. There are no camera stores in my area that carry these, so I can't see one up close. Thanks A Lot

Yes, please do post.. I would love to see some discussion. I would also like to see some "head" talk too. I have a tripod that works pretty good from what I can tell.. maybe not as sturdy as it could be.. it's about a $35 range Velbon at Walmart. The biggest problem I have is the the head won't move from horizontal to vertical. (unless you turn it so it can't "look" up and down) Talk it up! --jay

What I am trying to find out, does anyone out there own a Giottos Tripod, and if so what is their opinion of it. I have seen and played with Gitzo Tripods, and they are very, very, nice. But they are also expensive. My main use is for outdoor photography. I enjoy going to our state parks and walking the trails looking for interesting items to photograph. Wayne

Haven't had or messed with the Giottos tripods. I understand your love with Gitzos as I have heard much about them myself. I've been looking for a new tripod as well and have been looking at Bogen/Manfrotto tripods. If you check out bhphotovideo.com it will tell you how much their tripods can hold in terms of weight. I've seen some of the bogens (i think that was the brand, maybe manfrotto, i'm not sure how it all works) on sale for around $100 and they can hold up to 5 lbs. I actually found a pretty good tripod at a garage sale for $2. It was originally used for a large videorecorder. When I say large I mean the ones that you might have been able to rent from local libraries and use full size VHS tapes to record. I figured it had to be able to hold a 35mm camera, so I got it. The three legs aren't independant though, so that's why I'm still moderately looking or at least interested. Hope this helps. -Andrew
