Photo Printing

When I print out a photo on my HP Photosmart printer, the black areas in a photo print out as dark gray. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

On my photosmart 7960 printer I use a #59 photgray ink instead of the #56 black ink. I Think that this helps.

Buy an EPSON or try using a different kind of paper.

I also have an HP photosmart. The only time I've run into the problem you're describing is 1) cheap or inferior photo paper or 2) Printing an already B&W photo on the printer's Grayscale setting (this actually gives me gray and greenish blacks) Is it on all photos or just B&W?

So far I've only done color photos. I'm using a 57 color cartridge and a 58 photo ink cartridge. I had them refilled at a reputable store, but could it be inferior ink?
Thanks for your suggestions!

Could be Kevin. I've never used re-filled cartridges. I always use 57, 56 nd just recently started using the 58 Photo cartridge. I only ever get graying blacks on a draft mode. Try runing a cartridge cleaning cycle. Otherwise I'd buy new cartridges and see what happens.

Always use the same brand of paper as your printer. I have an Epson RX600& was very frustrated with the quality of my pics. I was about to take it back when they suggested using Epson paper instead of the Staples brand I was using. It was like night & day. The pics were great! So try the HP papers

Angela is so right! I started using the HP Premium Plus Soft Gloss and it has made a world of difference over most other papers with my HP printer!
