how to capture the mood of rainfall without the water drops appearing as blurs?

Depending on the amount of light use a high shutter speed to freeze the rain. I really have no clue but to guess at a speed I would say at least 1/500 (maybe 250) but you just have to try. I would also recommend using a high powered flash. I'm not sure if this works but you could try this. Expose for the scene and lets say its a long exposure of a second or so (maybe more) then take your flash (off the camera) and press the test fire button at the rain, and if the flash is powerful enough, it should brighten the rain and freeze it. Like I've said I've never done this but I read about it a long time ago and it seems like it should work fine with some practice. Best of luck. .justin.

I agree with justin, I've done that with snowfall to get the flakes instead of short white streaks and it worked great on a dull winter afternoon.
