How to Begin Photographing Children

I want to begin photographing children. I need to know what kind of camera and lens would be best. I plan to do inside and outside shots. I have been using a Canon but it is manual focus. What do you suggest?

Unless you are really good with the manual focus I would mainly suggest getting auto focus.

Are you talking about child portraiture for money? If so then quality is the key. Canon and Nikon have the best overall systems. If money is key my advice is get a cheaper camera and a really good lens.

I agree with the using auto-focus. What if there is a great candid shot you can get, but you lack auto-focus and can't focus in time, let alone not focus as clear as you wanted. Speed is the key too. Canon has the best auto-focus systems you can get. Try a Canon Elan 7, or 7E. As for lens, don't go to wide because that can give faces a distorted look, try using a 70-210mm lens. Tamron aka Promaster makes a decent one for a reasonable price. Hope this helps. If you have anymore questions, email me. :D
