Shutter Complications

I own a used 35mm Minolta x-700 camera, and it has worked perfectly for quite a while. Recently I have been developing film showing only half the image, and when I opened the back to see what the problem is, my shutter closes half way, then finally goes all the way closed. I understand that it would probably cost me more money to fix the camera than to replace it, but I want to be positive that I have no other more efficient/cheaper option. Is my camera broken? Is there anything I can do?

Maybe not. Get a repairman to look at it. It may just need a little lubrication.

"It may just need a little lubrication."

Squirting oil on it won't do anything. Sometimes the mirror arm linkage gets gunked up, but most likely the release capacitor(s) are dying. Often the capacitor leaks before it dies, requiring a careful cleaning/immersion of the circuit board.

I didn't mean to squirt oil on it. I meant send it in for a CLA.
