TTL vs. E-TTL

Looking for new flash for my Canon Eos camera. The dedicated flash I like gives me TTL, but another flash with similar features gives me E-TTL but is more expensive. Could someone explain the difference, is E-TTL worth almost $100 more than plain TTL? Thanks in advance.

At his website, photographer Bob Atkins gives a short explanation of Canon's E-TTL and A-TTL flash metering systems.

Canon also publishes a booklet called "Flash Works" that should be available at dealers or from Canon. "Flash Works" is also on the web at Canon Marketing Malaysia's site

  P.S.
E-TTL is available only in Canon's latest "Type A" bodies:
EOS-1v, EOS-3, Elan 7/7E (30/30e), Rebel 2000 (300), Elan II/IIE (50/50e), and Rebel G (500N); EOS IX and IX Lite; and digital EOS D2000 and D30 bodies.

All other EOS bodies are "Type B" cameras and will use A-TTL or TTL for flash metering, even if an E-TTL capable speedlite is attached. If you don't have a "Type A" EOS, then don't spend the extra money for E-TTL.
