Shadows behind subject

I keep getting shadows behind the subjects that I take. Should I get an umbrella or a flash bracket for this?? Could someone please explain what each of these are used for and which one would be the best to solve this problem?? I can upload a shot to let you see what I mean if need be?? Thank you so much for your help.
Kelly

I suggest you get a flash bracket and a softbox. The softbox will soften the hot spots (on the cheeks) and a flip bracket (Stroboframe flip bracket or something similar) will eliminate the shadows. It appears you turned your camera to the right when you went vertical. This put the shadow on the left, opposite the flash. If you had turned the camera to the left, the shadow would have been on the right. A flip bracket will let you keep the flash above the axis of the lens, rather than off to the side, and the shadows will fall behind the subject. Hope this helps.
