Photography Question

LaChelle A.

How to avoid under exposed pics with large groups?

How can I avoid from having pictures underexposed when taking large groups
indoor; not in studio, but at weddings.
I am using quantum Qflash Model T2, my flash is normally set on auto, F11, and ISO400. My flash does have an manuel setting but I never use that setting. Do I need too? I'm not able to download an image, hope you can still help me?

Not trying to be unkind, but next time just reply to your question under that same question rather than asking it again. It helps keep the site tidy. To answer your question, I don't know what the guide number of your flash is, but unless it is quite powerful, you need to use a lower f stop. I use a Metz flash with a guide number of 144 and it is not powerful to shoot at that distance using f/11 (I use a mini softbox and it cuts down on the light transmission while diffusing it). I would try shooting at f/8 or f/5.6. That should help with the exposure. Make sure your flash is giving you a confirmation signal that you had enough light. No, you don't need to use manual. You would then have to calculate the exposure manually. Just open up a little.
