What Filter is needed for Mercury Vapor Lights? I have a Nikon 5700. I would like to take pictures inside our Church. But with the indoor lighting of mercury lights my pictures are always yellow/green. Can you recommend a filter to compensate for this? Thank You,

A big advantage of digital cameras is the ability to set the white balance to match the lighting without the light loss of a lens filter. I don't know the particulars of the Nikon 5700, but I'll bet that you can custom set the white balance for whatever lighting you encounter.

Mercury Vapor lights react on film very similar to fluorescent lights. Each is somewhat green. The way to correct for this light is to filter your lens with the complimentary color to green - magenta. There are a couple of standard FLD filters for use with fluorescent lights, and you can also check out your local theater supply company for buying sheets of color correction gels. These are not as optically good as a glass filter, but I'd try some different strengths of magenta, and possibly even blue, if you are seeing a little yellow in there. Once you know the filtration needed, you could try (possibly in vain) to find a quality glass filter with close to the same color. Good Luck Michael H. Cothran
