Fill Flash
I have a Canon E0S 300D and have been reading about ways to take better pictures. Using a fill flash is recommended for portraits taken in bright light but I can't find any instructions in my camera manual on how to force the flash to fire. I found how to turn off the flash.

See pp. 80-83 of the manual. Pressing the lightning bolt button on the side of the lensmount pops the flash up and makes it ready to fire. Use P, Tv, Av, M, A-DEP for automatic fill flash (it may also work in the green box and PIC icon modes, I'm not sure).

The button will not release the flash head if you are in auto mode (green box). Turn your dial to one of the manual setting modes, and then press the button with the lightening bolt on the side of the lens mount. The flash will pop up then.
