White Backdrop looks gray in B&W prints

I mainly shoot high key portraits w/ kids/babies and have finally gotten my lighting right on color shots for a nice crisp white. However, when shooting B&W which is my favorite, my white backdrop looks more gray. I've viewed lots of other photographers work out there and their backdrops look white...even w/ B&W Any ideas? Could it be in the printing? Thanks!

  Hi Lisa,

If you set the background 1-2 stop over on the background light and looks okay in color then it should too in b&w. All high keys are done with 2 stops over exposure to be good - this depend on your subject distance from the background. I guess it must be with the printing.
