Help with Macro Mode OK.... sounds stupid, but I bought the Tamron 75-300mm lens and I cannot figure out how to put it in the "macro mode." Outside of the macro mode the minimum focus distance is 4.9 feet. In the macro mode the minimum focus distance is 3.12 feet. That's how you get the nice shots of the small things! The Tamron 70-300mm lens has a switch you use once you zoom out to 180-300. This lens has no switch. The directions reference many of the Tamron lenses, but they only talk about the damn switch on the other lens. Anyone know how to do this? Help an SLR newbie!

I don't have this particular lens, but I used to have a similar lens of another brand. The macro focusing range was only accessible when (a) zoomed to the longest telephoto setting, and (b) switched to manual focus. Have you tried that? Otherwise I'd give Tamron's customer service a call.

Good advice, Jon. I think with Tamron zooms, the macro mode is available at only certain focal lengths - not including the longest focal length. Zooming to 200mm and switching to manual focus should work ... if I am correct about this. Then play around to see what other focal lengths can be used at the 3 foot minimum focus distance. Cheers! Thanks guys. On closer inspection I saw that the 3 foot focus range was for the 70-300. No matter, I wanted an inexpensive zoom telephoto to learn on. I think I will eventually get a true macro lens for close ups.
