Greyscale printing via Photoshop

I recently purchased an Olympus C-2500 L and have been shooting at 'high quality' or super high quality, then opening the images in Photoshop 5.5, converting them to greyscale, and printing them out on my ALPS MD 5000 dry ink printer. I have the print resolution set to 300 dpi, but the prints turn out jaggy and bad (I get crisp, clear turnout on color images). What's my problem and how do I correct it?
