Lenses My wife and I are trying to decide what lens to buy after dropping and breaking our Sigma 28-80 2.8-4.0 lens. We wanted to switch to a more durable lens since this is the second Sigma that has broken on us. We considered going with a Canon 28-105 3.5-5.6 but were wondering if we should opt for the Sigma 28-105 2.8-4.0 instead. We loved the quality of picture the Sigma gave us but were not happy with their warrantee (1 year) and durability. However, it seems we can get better optics for the price with a Sigma. What's your opinion? and Has Sigma recently done anything about their durability problem?

Almost anything Canon makes is better than a Sigma lens. There are some exceptions but they are pro quality and pricey. Any zoom over 2x is a compromise to begin with. 28-200 or 300 is outrageous. Some 28-70 or 80 not much better. But for general snap shots I'd find the Canon 28-105mm (or 28-135 with the IS feature?) and go for it. Sigmas can be quite flimsy and of iffy quality.
