Camera and lens purchase I'm a beginner and I have $1000 to purchase a camera. How should I go about deciding which camera to buy?

Wendy, If you have that much to spend, I would recommend that you get a Minolta 800si, and a Sigma 28-300mm lens. This set up will allow you to do almost anything you want to do. You will not outgrow it for a long time. Buy it mail order and you can get it for under $1000 for both, and get some filters also. Look at Focus camera on the Web.
