Nikon Lens I just ordered a Nikon 28-105 lens. The salesman asked me if I wanted the one made in Japan or Thailand - the one from Japan cost 300$, the one made in Thailand cost 245$. I was told that the difference is: the Japanese mount is made from steel, and from Thailand the mount is made from plastic. Is that true? I thought the Nikon lenses are made in Japan and the U.S only, and the mount is from steel for all Nikon lenses. I'd like to know if the difference is true or not. Thanks.

Three days ago I bought the Nikkor 28-105. It is a steel lens and says Made In Japan. I know that the 28-80 (really cheap lens) is a plastic lens that is made in Thailand. However, I was under the impression that certain lenses were of higher quality than others, meaning you'd have no choice between the same 28-105. Anyway, perhaps you should check with other shops and see what their prices are like, but what you want is definitely the 28-105 made in Japan (one of the nicest zoom lenses I have ever used)!
