Pictures Indoors

Our primary goal is to take pictures of our daughter in gymnastics competitions. The competitions are held indoors, prohibit the use of flashes, we have to sit in the stands, so we are probably around 100 feet away or more (the 75-300 mm lens works fine), and our daughter is moving when we take pictures.

1. The camera we are using right now has a plastic body and lens ring, and I am worried about durability.

2. We have to use 1600 speed film to get good pictures.

3. We don't want to spend more than $1,000 total.

Is there some way to take better pictures than using the setup we are currently using? We are testing our current camera, so we need to make a decision in a few days.

You are doing everything right and I don't think a different setup would make things much easier for you. Unfortunately, this is just a difficult (next-to-impossible) thing to shoot.

The only recommendation I have for you is to use a monopod or tripod to at least reduce the camera shake problem. Other than that, you are doing everything just as I would and that camera should work as well as can be expected.
