Point and Shoot UltraZoom In the market for a point and shoot ultra zoom, the Canon SX50 IS or something similar. I do a lot of hiking and biking and carrying my DSLR with super telephoto lens is getting to be a bit too much. I know the image quality will not be as good as it is on my DSLR but feel like I am missing too may photo ops because I don't have the heavy equipment with me or I can't get it set up quickly enough. Would appreciate any advice or thoughts. Thanks

I had the Panasonic (Lumix) equiv of the SX50 and loved it. I have since passed it on to a young new dad, but I was very pleasantly surprised at the image quality for the tiny sensor size.

A friend of mine and former GP winner here gave up his heavy gear and bought a Canon SX50HS..I have seen the work he does with it and am totally blown away. It seems to be an amazing camera. I'm tempted to get one myself, since my Sony HX1 quit on me.

Thanks to all who have responded. An update on my cameras. Still have my Canon 60D for now but have purchased an Olympus E-M5 and could not be more pleased (except for needing to learn Olympus controls after 20+ years of Canon cameras). Image quality is great and it is so lightweight. Haven't decided yet on whether I will also pull the trigger on the SX50 but probably will for wildlife photos for which I need a really long zooms.
