Inaccurate color print I have a discontinued Epson R1800 printer and I am having a terrible time trying to get the color I see on the monitor to transfer to my printed photo. I am not sure where to begin at all. I have Windows 7 64 bit operating system. I installed the Epson Printer drivers, but still having problems. I have not used any type of calibration software. I tried going into the printer settings and tried adjusting some settings, but really no improvement. I am not sure what to do next. Any help would be appreciated.

Did your photos come out well before with this printer? You do need to calibrate both your screen and the printer to the screen. It may be necessary for someone else to do this for you if you are anything like me. I just watch them and say, "Huh?". I do hope that you realize that the print and the image on the screen will never look the same. We can get close though. The reason is the image on the screen is like a slide with the light shinning through it. The print we are seeing a reflected light image from a a piece of photo paper. My printer was discontinued 4 years ago and it still works well. The R1800 is a fine printer so if it is working properly it will give you excellent prints.

I've used epson printers for awhile. For me the key seems to be making sure that the printer is letting photoshop handle the colors. I'm not familiar with the R1800 but I'm betting it has a button for that.

You may be disappointed. My old Canon 13x19 printer will not do it. The newer models may and probably do have that options. But for a letter sized printer it still may not be an option. Lynn

Check pages 56 & 57 in the user's guide (I found it under the support tab at Epson.com). Since your operating system is almost certainly newer than the system they are referencing, things might look a little different or be worded slightly differently....but it seems like the same basic operating controls should be there.

Thanks everyone for the imput and help. I have just spent 3 hours, lots of ink and paper trying to get this fixed. Thanks Lynn for the user guide. I did what it said as well as going to Photoshop Help, but I am still having problems. When I used Windows XP, prints came out great. Since that time though I have upgraded computers several times and now have Windows 7. I am not sure what else to do at this point. Do you think getting a updated printer will help or do you think I will still have the same problems?

I have an Epson R300 printer that has never had nice color when I print directly from it in the Windows print program. Initially I achieved beautiful color when I printed from Photoshop and "let Photoshop choose the color" but after a few years something changed and I had terrible color. I was unable to update the driver because I still have Windows XP. Recently I spent several hours choosing different print settings in Photoshop. I printed the same 2 inch photo with a different color setting untill I found the right combination. Now I have pretty color again. When I get home on Saturday I'll check my settings and tell you what worked for me.

Hi Irene, Just wondering if you have had a chance to check your printer settings yet? I am still not able to get mine to print correctly :(

SOrry Kelly, I forgot about this. In the print window I have selected Color Management (the option is Output). Where it says Color Management I selected "Let Photoshop determine the colors." In printer profile I selected "Epson sRGB color space" In Rendering Intent I selected "Relative Colormetric" I hope this works for you.
