How to Avoid Gold/Red Eye in Gymnasium

Every picture I take of my children playing basketball in a gymnasium turns their eyes to gold. What can I do to avoid this and is it the same as red-eye? Would using a bracket and auxillary flash solve the problem?

Older compact cameras and some digital cameras available do not feature the 'red-eye' reduction function. In most cameras with red-eye reduction, a small light flickers ( located near the camera's lens ) a few times allowing the subject's eyes to blink and then the camera takes the photo in a split second thus zero red eye. Nikon compact cams have this feature and simply ask the dealer if the compact camera or SLR has the feature. A real good flash can also help and make sure to check for manual/ autofocus or digital capabilities of the flash.
