Problems with Canon Speedlite 430ex

Hi Everyone,

Just bought a speedlite 430ex today and i'm having some problems. When I turn it on the LCD starts blinking and the flash will not fire. I've read the manual and it says that I need to retract the wide panel but it isn't down. Anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks for your help.

  Hi Kesh,

I just bought the 430ex and am having the exact same problem. Did you ever get the problem resolved. Jane

Just a thought. Take the batteries out, then pull out the panel and push it back in, then reinstall the batteries and try it. I hope it works for you.

Thanks Mike. I'll try that, but I think the batteries are making a connection since the LCD screen on the unit is reading. It's just that it will not flash. No test flash nothing. But I will try your suggestion tonight. Thanks. Jane

I agree that the battery contacts are fine. I was thinking that the flash may have "locked up" and by removing the batteries , then waiting before you re install them you will be reintializing the flash. Sort of like when a PC locks up and you need to reboot.
