PANASONIC FZ5 LENSE HOOD JUST PURCHASED A NEW FZ5 AND BEING THE NOVICE THAT I AM WHEN DO YOU USE THIS EXTENDED LENSE HOOD AND IS IT REALLY NEEDED FOR MOST PICTURES. THANK YOU PLEASE RESPOND

Most useful when there is a stong light source that can cause flare/reflections on the front element of the lens. I leave my lens hoods on at all times, but you might remove it when using the built-in flash if the hood is large enough to block some of the light.

Use the hood when you are zooming in with your telephoto lense. Vennetting can occur if you use it at the smaller focal lengths.
