Macro lens
I have a Canon Digital rebel with a 100mm Macro 2.8 lens and when I try to take macro photos, the focused part of the photo is very limited and the rest is usually blurry, even at 2.8 aperture. I have seen pictures taken with the same macro lens and the whole subject is in focus. I keep playing around with it but don't seem to get it right. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks. here's a sample photo.

Andrea - you've got it backwards! F2.8 will yield the LEAST depth of field, while your smallest aperture (I'm guessing f32 on your macro lens) will yield the MOST depth of field. You've also got to be aware that the closer one focuses, the less DOP you will have for ANY given lens at ANY given aperture. Thus, you are already at a DOP disadvantage when doing macro work. Often times, you have to adjust or modify your subject to achieve all the depth of field you want or need in a macro shot. Michael H. Cothran www.mhcphoto.net
