Nikon D70 users I have been experiencing some problems with the power switch on my D70. I purchased it last Feb and it is at times not turning off or after I have verified that it is off and check it later it is back on. Just wondering if mine is just "special" or if this is happening else where.

Should've bought a Canon. No just kidding, the real answer to your question is simply ghosts. Say a prayer and they'll be gone. No I'm just playing I haven't a clue, but thought I'd be funny. Sorry! .justin. Good luck though, there are plenty of D70 user's on here.

Shon, So sorry buddy that it took me this long to think of it. It just dawned on me. I have a little background in electronics so I have a suggestion. First off have you ever gotten it wet? Like maybe some light rain or something, I mean the littlest droplet of water could've gotten into the power switch area. Well anyways I'm thinking that maybe the switch has a small short in it, could be due to water, could be just bad soldering. Anyways that's the only thing I could think of is it probably is just your switch. I recommend taking it to your local camera shop and have them give you an estimate. If its the switch and only the switch, replacing it with a new one should be pretty doggon cheap. I know its stinks that it's brand new and its kinda messin up but take it and get it looked at. I don't know anyhting about Nikon, but do they have a warranty? Check into that also. Good luck, let us know. .justin.

I glanced through 2 of Nikon's sites and it didn't really mention warranties when I scratched the surface but I noticed that when you buy it from B+H it comes with a limited 1 year U.S.A warranty so that makes me assume that all D70's come with a 1 year limited warranty. I don't know if you're in the states or not but again get with your local pro camera store or call their tech support and ask them if this type of thing falls under warranty or when you go and get an estimate, mention to them that its barely touching 7 months old. Good luck. .justin.

He and I both live in the States. He lives in the State of Idaho (I check his bio) whereas I live the State of Confusion. Maybe I need to quit reading all of these threads about digital cameras?

Justin it would be under warranty although being here in Idaho the closest listed warranty repair shop is in Salt Lake City and they are not up to speed or ablr to do the D70. I purchased it from Ritz and the local Inkleys does not do any repairs. It has not had an issue for over a week now, I do not think it was a water issue although I am familiar with electronics myself so I know where you are coming from. I just promised the wife I would not look into it myself. Go figure:) Then there is the issue of sending it in is that it tales so long. I would rather pay to have it done than to be without my camera for any given time. Thanks for your input.

Perhaps, since you don't have a "local" shop able to do the work, the good folks at Nikon could have you send it back to them to take a look at the problem, since it is under warranty? Check with the Nikon 24/7 tech help line at 1-800-nikon-ux Maybe they can direct you better. Good Luck!

I know the Inkleys here in Utah guarantees it and will replace it no questions asked. Have you looked into that?
