I just Purchased a Canon 20D. I have been using a Sony DSC S70 for quite some time for my digital work and have been shooting 35mm for over 40 years. I bought the kit which has the 18-55 EF-s Lens. All my pics seen to look very blurry when I shoot either manual or auto. I am attaching pics taken with my 20D and Sony. Does anyone have any ideas or am I just expecting too much out of the 20D?

The 20D and similar DSLRs do far less in-camera sharpening and adjustment than do compact digitals like the Sony DSC-S70. Post-processing of the RAW or Large/Fine .jpg files with a digital editor and applying sharpening tools such as Unsharp Mask will give better results. In addition, compact digitals have very short focal length lenses which give much much greater depth of field. While the Sony lens is "equivalent" to 34mm-102mm, its actual focal length is only 7mm-21mm. Comparing the 20D with the zoom at 55mm and f/5.6 (wide open, it's "softest" setting), the same shot with the Sony would be at ~11mm and f/5.6 (it's optimal aperture a couple stops down from wide open). The much greater depth of field of an 11mm lens at f/5.6 v. 55mm at f/5.6 gives the impression of greater sharpness.
