Photography Question

Connie J. Bagot

Which one would you keep?

Please excuse the improper category selection---I couldn't figure out what the proper one would be. Also, since I've pretty new to the site, please excuse the question if it is something that has been discussed fairly recently.

For all users of cameras with interchangeable lenses----if you were allowed to only keep one lens out of your current arsenal, which one would it be? (mine would be my canon 28-135----for its versatility).

You're cheating. The 28-135 is a zoom lens encomposing a total of 108 DIFFERENT focal length lenses, ranging from 28mm wide angle through the normal range to 135mm telephoto. OF COURSE IT'S VERSATILE!!!!
If you're going to ask the question, better to ask what "single focal length" lens one would keep. So, my question to you is, if you could ONLY shoot at ONE focal length on your 28-135 zoom, which would it be???

Hmmm. Not really sure that it is cheating because I have other zoom lenses that I WOULDN'T chose to keep (and I was curious about what makes a lens a personal favorite)...but I guess I see your point too. And if I had to choose....I would choose about 65mm I think....a little more than "normal."

Now you?

This question comes up often, and it really is too contrived to be meaningful. If I could only have one lens, then I wouldn't bother with an interchangeable lens SLR. ;-) But if you held a gun to my head, I'd go with a EF 28-300 f/3.5-5.6L IS USM. Of the lenses that I currently own, the EF 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 USM gets the most use, but you'd take my EF 70-200 f/2.8L USM only after prying it from my cold dead hands.

  Interesting question, Connie.

Out of my current arsenal, I use my Sigma 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 the most.

If I had to choose one fixed-length lens, it would be a 50mm f1.4

If I could pick anything, I would take Jon's EF 28-300mm IS USM lens, and make it a constant f2.8 aperture. Now THAT'S cheating!
