Photography Question

photoing a rainbow

Last evening, after a spring shower, there was a beautiful rainbow in the sky. I decided to photograph this. As I pepared to take the shot, all my camera would do was auto-focous, but when I pressed the shutter button it would not take the picture. I then focoused on a nearby house where I could still get a partical shot of the rainbow. The camera then fired. Was this due to the house being a foucous point to the camera, and the sky not being one? My camera was in auto-mode at the time I was trying to photograph the rainbow.

Your camera couldn't find enough detail and/or contrast in the sky on which to focus. For a situation like that, you need to switch to manual focus if you can.

Also try using filters to photograph rainbows. I find them quite helpful. Good Luck. Peace, karen
