Photography Question

EOS20D Canon

Question folks.

I have recently bought a Canon EOS20D digital camera. I need to take VERY very high resolution pictures, as I work in a magazine. I have set the camera on a highest setting - L - which is supposed to produce pictures that are good enough to be printed even on A3 paper. However, sometimes the photos aren't super clear and they also tend to be very small in size - max 2 MB. why? can you please advise? I need pics with a size of a min of 8 MB, what should I do?

Thanks!!

Hannah

Please when you reply bear in mind that I like shooting in AF mode, due to the constant lack of time!

Thanks,

Hannah

.jpg files are compressed, that's why the file size is smaller than you're expecting. There are two "L" settings. Select Large-Fine as it uses less compression than Large-Normal.

Better yet, saving your images as RAW allows more effective post-processing.

Photos not "super clear" could be a lens/filter problem, focusing problem, too large an aperture (too little depth of field), or too little sharpening applied to the digital image, or unrealistic expectations due to viewing on a monitor at 100% (equivalent to 4' x 6' print).

There are some good articles at Canon Digital Learning Center.
