Problem w/ Canon Elan 7

I purchased a new canon elan 7 in sept. 03 9 months later had to send it in under warranty because the camera would shut off saying battery was dead. Yet when turned back on lcd read full battery and I could get another 3 shots or so off. Camera came back repaired stating the shutter & EPU were replaced. Now almost exactly 9 months later (of course out of warranty) the same thing is happening of course right in the middle of a shoot (back up camera also CANON is now not functional as well) I talked to canon today and the tech told me that he thinks it is my canon 28-105 lens that is the problem and that I should send them both in for repair! I'm so FRUSTRATED with Canon I was hoping to go digital soon but am afraid to even give Canon a glance! Has anybody else had any issues like this? I have another shoot tomorrow and 3 more next week I cannot be without a camera! I am fit to be tied!
:(

Symptoms are those typical with certain 3rd party maker's pre-2001 designed lenses when used on Elan 7 and later issue EOS cameras. Have only experienced this myself with my Canon lenses if there was a bad connection between the lens and camera (my user error rather than a manufacturing defect). Make sure the electronic contacts on both the lens and body are clean, and that the lens is fully mounted (locking pin clicks in).

Otherwise, :-(

Covering all bases, ...
The Elan 7 is a consumer body and the shutter is not rugged enough for professional use. Any chance you've exceeded 10-20,000 shutter cycles?

Perchance are you using 3rd party flash? There may be an inadequately backward-engineered E-TTL communication similar to the pre-2001 lens problem.

Jon, at first when you asked if I exceeded 10 to 20,000 shutter cycles I said no way (then I remebered mentally trying to calculate my car mileage for last year and being under by about 4000 miles...good thing I had my notebook) then I started thinking about how many sessions I really had the last year & 1/2 and now think, yeah, there is a good chance that I did that. That would have never crossed my mind. I guess I just figured that the camera should last me longer than a year & 1/2...not thinking in terms of useage. Any ideas on a good pro digital that will last me longer than a year and not break the bank?
