My Nikon N55 blinks F-- and will not let me take a picture why?

  It could be a couple of things -

1. Your lens' contacts are not mating properly with the camera's contacts.
2. You are using an older manual focus lens with no contacts.
3. Your exposure is out of range.

  My D70 does this when I use a lens with an aperture ring when the aperture hasn't been set to the smallest opening (largest F number). Maybe you can give this a try?

  Excatly What Johan Said, Lock The Aperture Ring To The Highest Numbered FStop.Most All Nikon Cameras Does This:-)
