Canon 300D Manual Focus

Hey again. Yea so Im thinking about buying a Digital Rebel. I don't know a lot but I was reading reviews on different sites and they said that you couldn't manually focus with this SLR. But I went to this website, http://www.photo.net/equipment/canon/300D/ and they said you could. It's probably a dumb question, but I would like to be able to do the manual focus thing so I can blur certain parts of the image and I was wondering if that is possible with this camera since everywhere that I read about it people say it is autofocus only. Get back to me when anyone gets a chance. I appreciate it!!

All EOS cameras, digital or film, can be manually focused. The on/off (AF/MF) switch is on the lens. Some lenses can be manually focused even when set for AF (Canon's ring-USM lenses, Sigma's HSM lenses).

The deal with the Digital Rebel is the same as with the film Rebels: the user cannot manually select the autofocus mode. Higher level EOS bodies allow the user to independently select:

(a) One Shot - The camera will not fire until focus is confirmed. Once confirmed the camera does not attempt to refocus, speeding continous shooting.

(b) AI Servo - Camera continuously refocuses as long as the shutter button is half-pressed, and allows the shutter to trip without focus confirmation. AI Servo attempts to track focus a moving subject between shots which slows continuous shooting slightly.

(c) AI Focus - A combination of (a) and (b). AF starts in One Shot, but automatically switches to AI Servo if subject movement is detected.

In the "creative" exposure modes (Program, Aperture priority, Shutter priority, and Manual) the Rebel's autofocus operates in AI Focus mode only. One Shot is the mode when using the PIC modes for Portrait, Landscape, Close Up, and Night Scene. AI Servo is only available when shooting in the Sports PIC.
