NIKON D-80 SLR

I am thinking of buying my first SLR after using a Cannon A95 Powershot Digital camera for four years. You can check some of my pictures at my gallery.

After reading various forums on the web. I think Nikon's D-80 seems suitable. My budget is somewhere between USD500 - 1000.

Will appreciate your advise on the same and on the available lenses that I should go for. Thanks.

I used my D80 for a year & loved it. I just recently moved up to the D300. Currently there are Nikon kits with 1-2 lenses. I bought mine with the 18-135 kit lens. Don't forget you'll want a tripod right away & save for a 50mm prime lens.

I've had my D80 for a few months now, and love it!

They key problem is AE tends to over-expose a small bit. I keep my set to underexpose by -.5 EV and always check the histogram (a good idea with any camera!) It's a pretty minor complaint :)

I also wish it had more bracketing options and would auto bracket multiple exposures in multi-shot mode (I can do this with my Cannon A570 with CHDK installed... you might want to check it out for you A95 if you haven't yet. It's free, feature packed and great.)

Also, Cannon's ZoomBrowser is a heck of a lot better than Nikon's included software, so I tend to use that instead. But you have that already, too :)
