Scanning Negatives - Yellow Mark?!? Hi, I bought a scanner today and I'm scanning negatives I got. However after I scan them I get a yellow mark across the whole bottom of the picture. And this mark isn't on the original photo or negative. So what can be causing this? Anyone know? Thanks.

What's it look like, hair thin line or what?

It was a thick line along the bottom or the right hand side depending if it was a portrait or landscape type photo. I changed the settings and it seems to be fine now. I don't know what it was. Maybe I wasn't sitting them properly? The only problem I'm having now is that some of the negatives don't turn out right. Like half of the picture is mixed up with another picture. I know I'm doing something wrong, but I'll figure it out. Thanks.

Ok I have another question :) Why is that I have to crop the negative and I can't use all of it? I have to crop either the right, left, top or bottom.

Well the overlapping pictures may be coming from the scanner not being able to see the space between negative frames. If the photo is dark, or dark background in the photo, there may not be enough contrast for the scanner to recognize. What's making you crop? You can't scan the whole frame, or after you scan it, some step is telling you to resize? You what kind of scanner is it? Somebody might come in who has had the same kind.

Yeah, there is a step where I can crop it either side. The scanner is a CanonScan 4400f. There's lots of settings I can change, so I will figure it out in time. Thanks for the advice.

Scanners have settings for resolution and sometimes to scan parts of negatives. Maybe there's something there that needs changing.

Turn off any "auto crop" setting this scanner may have. You want to use the scanner's manual capability to draw your own crops, even they they do take in the entire frame. The scanning software may be saving a previous crop. Figure out how to turn that off.

Ok I found the setting to turn it off and I can scan the whole negative. It's funny because they (the ones who developed my pictures) cropped them from the negatives also. If that makes sense. The only problem I have now is some of the negatives overlapping. But I'm going to leave it at that for the time being. I have the pictures anyway. So I will try to work that problem out if I get it again with newer ones I take. Thanks Everyone :)
