Which Minolta? Hi my question is I'm looking to get a older 35mm slr camera and I like the Minolta's becouse I've had several of them and am familiar with them. Currently I have the Minolta Maxxum 5xi. I'm thinking about buy either the X700 or X570 I've heard both are very good camera's. I want somthing that I can experiment with using all modes. My last manual was the XG1 that was along time ago and I really enjoyed it. I've done some work with my 5xi but it's all AF and I'm limited on what I can and want to do. So what are you suggestions between either the two above camera's or poss another brand my budget is abt 300.00. Any suggestions would be helpfull. Tnx Dan

Definitely, the X700. The X570 was a model brought out to satisfy the needs of folks who wanted a slightly cheaper camera or didn't want/need all the bells of the X700. You only problem with buying an older camera is whether or not it's in good shape. You nust go to a vendor who provides a rating guide on the condition of the camera. Keh, Adorama, B&H immediately come to mind. Do not buy from a "friend" unless you can have the cmaera checked out at a releiable repair service. There are many - Essex Camera in Rutherford, NJ is one of the best.

welcome dan, minolta made a lot of models.i compared about 20 of them when I went looking for another minolta since I already had several lenses. I settled on the xtsi.i picked one up off ebay,with 2 lenses,exc condition,for under 100 bucks. ya didn't really say what features you were looking for.sam

Hi Sam tnx much for the gd info. I want to experiment with b/w sunset/sunrise maybe sum photo's of the moon. A bit of everything. I do take some photo's of people but I find some of the most intresting photo's are right in my back yard. Been doing alittle digital with my p/s but not the same I still like film better and ya cant beat it for BW. BW show's emotion and thats the coolest thing about it. Like barn pictures I'd rather see 1 in BW then color gives it that old school feel.

really,i'm ok with night scenes in b/w,yet the rest to me represents death.barn pics in b/w are quite relevent,a lost lifestyle.but to be stripped of it's true virture?a family,a way of life? just my perception. freud or friend,or could be a case of paranoia.the 7000 series were nice cameras also.then again ya throw in the operator and? happy hunting,sam

How far back do you want to go? srT101 can operate mechanically INDEPENDANT of the battery. Don't need it. Chunk it. Get a Weston light meter from eBay and go back to basics. I love mine and use it often. No need to worry about batteries draining on a cold winter day. Timer. Mirror lock. Vivitar sync cord socket. MC/MD lens mount. needle meter with the battery. Batteries are tough to get, different from the more recent watch type batteries.
