Minolta 35mm Camera I have tried three different venues to have my Minolta camera fixed. The part is unavailable. Any ideas on a camera shop that would have old parts for a Minolta Camera? If I am unable to have the camera repaired, any ideas on where to sell the lens. The lens is a Minolta 70-300, only a year old. Thanks.

Martha, I'd suggest doing a Google search for your specific camera and if you know what part is needed include that and see what you come up with. I did one for "Minolta Camera Parts" and came up with several hits, UScamera.com being one of the first. I have no business dealings with them so this isn't a recommendation in any way. If you are able to locate the part/s, you may want to check resellerratings.com to see what reputation the company has. Just a thought.

Hi Martha – unfortunately, your experience validates my decision to switch from Minolta to Canon when Minolta was purchased by Sony. Sony, as I am sure you already know, has a very poor customer service record. They provide only limited, and not very user friendly, support for KM products. You did not say where you live; however, if you live in the Northeast US, there are at least two shops that may be able to assist you. The first is Eagle Camera and Digital in Portsmouth, NH and the second is Salem Camera in Salem, MA. Both of these shops still offer some support for Minolta cameras and can do some repairs in house. As to how to sell your lens; B&H Camera/Video will buy and resell old equipment; although, you may do better selling it on your own through either your local camera shop/camera club or via E-bay.

Hi Martha, Minolta joined forces with Konica. For a time it was called Konica-Minolta. After a few years, Konica-Minolta dissolved their camera manufacturing. Sony purchased the rights to the camera technology and assumed repair commitments. You should attempt to have Sony perform the repair. If that fails you have no choice but to attempt to sell the lenses etc. Maybe you can have a friend attempt to sell on Ebay etc.

Martha, Again, this isn't a recommendation; but, just a repair shop I found doing a Google search. They specialize in older SLR cameras. Might be worth a try if you really want to get it repaired. They have a list of the cameras they do work on by manufacturer. http://abilenecamera.com/

Martha, what is the problem with this camera? Is the shutter not advancing? Is the mirror locked up? It could be a blown capacitor (little electrical doo-hickey) that you can buy on eBay for about $10.00 and a crack camera guy could replace them for you for around $100.00 maybe a bit more. If you can get someone to diagnose it for you and it turns out to be a spring or a small jeweler's screw or something like that and they would be willing to wait, parts cameras are available as well for a dime a dozen. Find a camera shop, not just a film retailer, but the guy that has developer on the shelf in stock and ask him to look into it for you.

Christopher, thank you for your response. I am not sure what is wrong with the camera. When I turn it on it says help in the window, someone thought it was some kind of motor. I am trying to find a camera shop that has been in the business a long time and maybe it can be fixed. I would really like to have it fixed. I have a zoom lens, and the camera is in excellent shape. I found the same camera, Minolta 450 on ebay, I am hesitant to buy something when the same problem could happen. Thank you for any help you can give me.
