Camera Lens

I'm interested in buying a wide-angle lens and telephoto lens; however, I'm a little apprenhensive of buying lenses for fear of not being able to use them with a digital camera.

Although I don't own a digital SLR yet, I plan to eventually invest in one. If I buy a lens for a 35mm camera, will that lens be compatible and/or interchangeable with a digital SLR?

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks,
Adrian

In general, AutoFocus lenses for a 35mm film camera will work with a Digital SLR from the same camera manufacturer, if the lens mounts are the same.

To be more specific, I need to know what film camera you are using now, then I can tell you if a digital SLR will be able to use your lenses.

For example, if you are using a Canon EOS 35mm film SLR, any lens that fits it will have a Canon EF mount, and will fit any of Canon's EOS digital SLRs. If you are using an older, manual focus Canon SLR, like an AE-1, then these lenses will not fit on any digital SLR cameras without an adaptor and reduced functionality of the lens.

Other manufacturers have other issues to consider. Nikon has had so many different lens variations over the years that it's hard to keep up.

So let us know what you are shooting now, and we'll give you your options.
