How to File Stock Photos

In what do you file stock photos? In file folders, or large envelopes? In sleeves in the file folders or envelopes, or what? Please explain.
Thank you.

Mary, what exactly do you mean by "stock photos"? The 4x6 prints that come back from the shop? 8x10 glossies? The negatives?

THe prints can be stored however makes sense to you - shoeboxes (or their fancier equivalents available in stores), albums, whatever. The important thing is to take care of the negatives; you can always make more prints from a negative, but if you lose or damage the negative you've got few choices.

There are plastic pages designed for negative storage - a company named Print File makes a bunch of styles of pages for various sizes of film. Store these either in 3 ring binders, or, better yet, in one of the enclosed binders also made for this purpose.

One approach can be to write the name of the event (whatever) on the negative page, then store the prints (perhaps just banded together) in a shoebox-type affair with a note as to what page the negatives are stored in. Always put some sort of date indentification on these to make future searches easier.
