  It would help if you would give us the name of the camera you are using but it seems like you are wanting a telephoto. Let us know what camera you are using and we will see what advice we can give.

  Yes, NIcole, you need to mention what kind of camera you have, what sort of "closer" you mean (sports shots? wildlife and birds from very far away?), and what your budget is.

In general, so-called telephoto lenses, with longer focal lengths and subsequent narrower angles of view, are the type that "bring far awawy stuff closer". But there are many many types, differing in length, speed, etc. And there are 'zoom' lenses, that allow for you to change the focal length for more flexibiility.

Since these types of lenses can cost from $100 to $10,000, you need to be a little more specific.
