welcome tyler, well your on opposite ends here tyler.for sports you'll need fast f-stops,f2.8 or at least f4 ,and 200 to 300mm . for landscapes you'll want 24 to 28mm , and f16 to f22.digital or film doesn't matter. now with this info do a search or check with your local camera store, there are sooo many makes and models out there it really has to be your choice.but I think your pushing it for 2 to3 hundred dollars, maybe used ? sam

Sam, I don't really think that he is pushing it for 200-300$, depending on some other things, how many megapixels he wants for instance. Also stay with known brands like HP, Canon, Nikon, Sony, ect. If you haven't heard of the brand, I would be cautious about buying it, because it may not be very good quality.

HP, Canon, Nikon, Sony, MINOLTA, ect:)! Are you calling the F828 a Brownie camera? lol! He said that he was a beginner, so 3 to 4MP camera might be ok. He won't be able to print huge, but 8x10 should be fine. Also, you can get a 7.2MP Sony(DSC-W7 and DSC-P200) for about

Hi Tyler Welcome! As one of the few users of film left on this site and elsewhere, I am an advocate of both film based cameras and pawn/used equipment shops. If you start with a manually operated film based camera (and it's not cheap in the end because of the processing that you DON'T have to do with digital) My next choice will most likely be a D50--a Nikon digital SLR but it's out of my price range just now, whereas a used FE or a good contition FM2 and a couple of lenses wouldn't have been. Think it depends on how serious you are. Either will give you great photos if you have the eye of a photographer. So will a disposable--okay maybe that's pushing it a bit.(grin) Using a digital camera for the first time gives you more of a chance to concentrate on composition and the rewards are instantly gratifying--or not... A used manual camera is a good place to learn photography and may fit into your 2-300 price range if you look around. Buen suerte!

e-Bay..great deals on used gear. Be careful, ask the seller all the right questions. Make sure you can return the camera if it isnt exactly what the seller claimed. If you do everything I mentioned you'll find some very nice Nikons,Canon,Olympus and others and great prices. I recently bid on an Olympus OM2. I bid 5.00 dollars..hehehehe. Of course I was outbid. I belive the bidding is still up as I write this. (Maybe a day or two left) last I looked the camera was up to a whopping 45.00 and this include 3 lens. Take a look. ;-)
