Film quality

I am going to Hawaii in a week and I am taking along my digital and film camera. I definately prefer the ease and convenience of digital, but overwhelmingly prefer the image quality of film photography. I plan on using my digital for touristy shots, while using my film SLR for quality images. Most of the shots will be landscape, and some will be action. Does anyone know of a good quality film for daytime shots and another for nightime that will render very color saturated, soft images? (Also, what's the best filter for creating that soft, dreamlike result?) THanks!

there are several filters that can give you these effects, you can even make them- but try this site-she is a great seller and will give you examples of what you can achieve with the different ones:

BUT- don't forget the polorizer!
have a blast,

  hi stephanie,
i use 400 speed film for just about everything.fuji superia I like, and the new kodak uc.action, low light and sunsets.
the drawback on the kodak is it only comes in 36 exposure rolls.
some say a slower speed film gives much better results, but I think with a tripod and a remote release, your results will be quite satisfactory.
timing and light are more important to me than film speed.but I shoot several different subjects on one roll of film, hence my choice.
hth,sam
