Aftermarket flash

I own a Canon AE-1 program. I would like to buy a flash and I am considering a Vivitar 560d. It is advertised as a dedicated unit.

My questions are, does this flash unit provide the same features as the Canon 166a and 188a?

Has anyone had any experience with this particular product, and/or would recommend an alternative?

The AE-1 Program does not support TTL flash exposure control. While the 188a and 166a dedicated speedlights will automatically set the shutter speed to 1/60, and the aperture to the setting on the flash, the flash output is controlled by a sensor on the front of the flash. I'm not 100% certain, but I think the Vivitar 560D will work the same way.
