shooting with a telescope Has anyone out there tried their hand at shooting through a telescope? I'd like some moon shots, and hoping to learn something. Does the ole f-16 rule apply for this? ( 1/100 for iso 100, 1/200 for iso 200 etc. )What about the so-called up-coming Mars encounter? Is anyone planning to shoot Mars as it passes by next month? Thanks for all the help.

I have done a little bit of it but got a little discouraged recently. I need to get a special telescope adaptor for my SLR camera and a special T Mount adaptor for my Canon EOS. The closer pictures of the moon on my premium gallery were with my small digital point and shoot. For those I set the exposure compensation to underexpose two stops because it does use the sunny 16 rule. Oh yeah, I also just put the small digital camera right up to the eyepiece and used the viewfinder. If your camera has a smaller lens diameter and the eyepiece is larger, you might be able to put the camera right up to the telescope eyepiece. Otherwise you'll probably need to get a special adaptor. I think you can find them on bhphotovideo.com. They're not too expensive. Don't forget that if your exposures get too long of Mars and such that you will need to have a motor drive for your telescope unless you want streaks of light caused by the stars and planets. I might use some of my next paycheck to get the adaptor to be able to shoot through my telescope. If I get this adaptor, I might try some kind of shots of it? I think there's some website that's called something like "heavensabove.com"? But I'm not sure. Hope this helps.

You probably will want to talk to Art Rosch. (Artsdigitalphotos.com)(I think). Check out his website. It's awesome.

Andrew, what type of telescope do you have? I have a Bushnell 4 and a half inch reflector that I'd like to try taking some photos through

My telescope is a Celestron Newtonian. It's 4.5inch diameter and somewhere around a meter long. I'm not sure of the exact model but this is very close if not a newer version of the one I have. http://www.celestron.com/prod_pgs/tel/fs114eq.htm I have a 25mm and 10mm eyepiece. Like I said, I believe I'm going to need to get the special adaptor like I posted about last time so I can take off the lens and eyepiece. Notice that the telescope says 900mm at f/8. I'm going to be going for some moon stuff and bright stars first because I don't have a motor drive to make up for the motion of the earth, right ascention or something.
