Photoshop Action Modification I have a Photoshop action that I bought that I love to use ... but I want to modify parts of it because the image is too saturated. I've tried duplicating the action and then going through it to change little pieces of it, but those changes never save so I can apply it to a batch of photos. Does anyone know how to modify an already existing action and have it save so you can batch apply that action? Thanks!

Robin, I've done a lot with actions, and it seems you are suggesting the right things - so long as you know how the action works, you can modify and re-save. You may just want to be sure that the dialogs for the action open so you can adjust saturation ... check through the action to be sure the dialog toggle (the box immediately to the left of the action step - a box with three dots) is on. It is off if the box is not there; to turn it on, just click. To save, choose Save from the Actions menu. To run it in batch, you need to choose Batch from the automate menu (CS2) and then select your action. If part of this is a problem or unclear, feel free to ask!

Robin, I use actions ALL the time! It may be simpler -- rather than fool with the action, which might look different on different pictures anyway, depending on the pictures saturation already there -- why not make a copy of the over-saturated resulting image, paste it on your background layer from before you ran the action, then lower the opacity of the over-saturated layer, or adjust the saturation of your top layer after the fact. I do it that in quick easy steps and get just the right amount of saturation each time. Just a thought.

Sandy, Well-made actions should produce reproducable results. Agreed that many you find floating around on the internet won't behave predictably...but that is not the nature of actions, it is the nature of those who may have constructed the ones that don't work right ;-) Richard

Gregory, no need to turn this into a mac vs. PC thing ;-) If I read you right this is a different and interesting interpretation of the cliche...But yes, actions that are built and distributed freely may not be top quality actions and are likely often created by people who lack experience and expertise creating actions...I distribute some free that are very good for Elements users that add functionality to the program and produce predictable results, but they are also used as introduction to, and advertising for, my other more extensive sets that are not free.
