selling photos on ebay I am interested in selling some of my work on eBay... has anyone out there done this and have any good pointers for me such as a good starting bid and maybe how to write a good title that will get people interested in looking?? Thanks :)

It's interesting that no one has responded to this point. As one who has done a lot of eBay selling, I asked myself the same question. I have a commercial web site where I offer my photos for sale but I thought that eBay might be a good option as well. Certainly a much higher traffic result. You didn't say if you have any experience at selling anything else on eBay so if not, that puts you at a bit of a disadvantage to start off. I looked for evidence of successful selling of photos (prints and other formats) and quickly decided that it was probably not a good option. Very few prints listed for sale there have actually sold. Do some searches using different key words related to photography. "Prints", "Photographs", etc. Be sure to check the Ended Listing results. It's one thing to see a huge number of currently active listings but the real teller is the list of those listings which have closed. Too many of them closed without a sale and the ones which did end in a sale more often than not sold for no more than a couple of dollars. If you have spent time and money preparing a print with good paper, backing, perhaps matting or whatever else, just the materials alone could cost you close to $10 or even more. To have an auction close with an ending bid of perhaps $2 is not a good return. eBay is great for many products but from what I found, it's not a good market place for works of photographic art. Perhaps between the time you asked the question and now you have found this out. On the other hand, perhaps you found the secret I missed and I'm missing out on a good market. :-) Dan,

Tammy, I second Dan's advice on this. I prefer to use other website host options available to the photographer who wishes to sell their art. I use BetterPhoto as my homepage website, and I have a website that is "offsite" from my BetterPhoto home page found in my LINKS for almost all of my e-commerce sales. Back to E-Bay. Common occurence is theft by sweatshops overseas. Just found a detailed post of this subject in Fine Art America discussions. A painter found her original artwork copied and being sold through China. Ebay deleted the auction, but did not take action against the thief who copied the artwork and was selling the counterfiet.
