dance / sports photos Help! I've been asked to take photos for a dance studio. I haven't done this before, but came up with a package and price listing I am fairly happy with. I discounted my normal prices approximately 20%. Here's the problem....this is a new dance studio but many of the kids (small town) went to a previous dance studio and they used another photographer. I saw the package they used last year and the prices are MUCH lower than mine. Should I lower mine? I really don't know how they make money on this....maybe they don't spend much time processing or touching up, etc... Do photo studios just consider this as a "advertisement" for their studio and don't charge much? My prices are going to look crazy compared to last year and I'm afraid no one will want to order. I'm not sure how I should proceed. Any advice would be much appreciated!!

I don't know how much you should charge, but you might consider that they aren't using that cheaper photographer this time.

Tara, Compare your normal prices to what others in town are charging for non package photos. You could be right in the ballpark, too low or too high for the quality that they use. You may have to rethink your pricing. How did you feel about the quality of the other photographers photos? Are you better? Be honest with yourself. Apparently he was set up to keep the IDs of each person which can be a real nightmare for the first time. This also depends if it is 5 children or 30. Giving package prices of groups is considerably more difficult than for a family or couple. You may want to rethink the whole thing. But first find out why they chose you instead of the other photographer. Make sure that you can meet the requirements. Bad word of mouth can be death to your business.
