How to protect photos on a website

I am in the process of building a website for my photo business and I am wondering if there is a way to protect your photos that you put on the web from being copied. I know that sometimes you can go to a website and right click on a photo and it gives you the option to save it to your images. I would like to prevent that from happening if at all possible.

Thank you so much for your help with this.

There is absolutely no way to prevent a photo from being 'taken' if it can be displayed in a web browser. (Every single code solution, including those here on BP ;^), can be defeated.)

That said, you might consider posting a limited size (e.g., 750 px on the long end as a max size) and reduce the resolution (pixels per inch) as much as possible. These steps make is more difficult to reprint, especially in an offline medium.

There are some digital rights protection schemes, but unless your pics are very valuable they're probably not cost effective.

Best solution - put a clear use policy on your website and enforce it.

Cheers,

RK

Low resolution and a watermark right across the middle of the photo. It won't keep anyone from copying it, but it makes it a lot harder to do anything with it.

First of register your work with the U.S copyright office. this way if someone uses your images you can collect civil and punative compensation. Add a © symbol and date to every image.
