Photographing Events - Model Release

I have recently been asked to photograph some events: 1. a car show at a church and 2. a community service day for a local company. My question is: Do I need to have model release forms signed if I want to post the photographs from these sessions on my web site? I will use the photos to promote my business, and will also offer them for sale on my site.
Does anyone know the rules for photographing people and their property? At the car show, obviously there will be a focus on people's cars - do I need model releases for cars?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
Candace

Well, that topic has been discussed here in one form or another, probably ohhhhhhhhh, a gazillion times. Do a search under "model releases". The short answer to your question is "yes, you do" because publishing electronically is the same as publishing in print or putting the work on display in public for non-editorial purposes.

And before you engage in photographic work for compensation, you really ought to be thoroughly versed in the basic rules and laws that apply to what you're doing. You should find a couple of books on Business Practices for Photographers, by ASMP.org and another one, Photographers and the Law and read both of them before going much further in your endeavors.
Good luck and
Take it light ;>).
