Putting copywright on print I am not a professional photographer by any means. I did sell five underwater slides to a magazine in 1965, but I certainly did not make a living in photography. I have been doing quite a lot of digital photography in the last two years. A restaurant I go to asked me to display some of my prints and they would be for sale. I think I would enjoy this even if I didn't sell any. I have read several things on the internet and a book that prints should show my name, the copyright symbol, and the year. I have read several conflicting statements about where this information is supposed to go. Some say in the lower margin and others say on the back of the print in pencil. Can anyone give me any advice on this. I would be very thankful. Dannie

Hi Dannie, I place mine on the front for two reasons. 1. It tells people immediately who took the shot and that it is copyrighted to protect you. 2. If someone tries to copy it illegally you are making it a little harder for them, they now have to go to a photo program and try to remove the copyright. Why make it easy for them by not having it on there. To get the copyright logo in any photo editing software you use the numeric keypad in num. lock mode and hold down the Alt key while hitting the 0169 on the num. keypad. Hope this helps. Kathy in NH

placing a copyright on the back of the photo is acceptable in the following format. © namen all rights reserve, date. this warns those that purchase or use the photograph that no use is allowed without the written permission of the photographer. Even if the photogragh is purchased, it is the that particular photo and not the right to reproduce it in any manner
