Selling photos on smugmug.com site

I recently signed on with smugmug.com for online proofing and sale of portraiture. I love the site itself, but I ordered some test prints and was not happy with the quality of prints I received when comparing them to prints from mpix.com. My question is, does anyone have any advice or experience on the best way use the site for proofing only, but then to direct customers off site for actual order placement using email, paypal or whatever? Is there and easy way? I'm concerned about it being too difficult from the customers point of view.

My suggestion would be to use your Paypal account. It still requires emails for communication. I would think it's like doing business on Ebay.

I use morephotos.com - it takes the order and the credit card information but doesnn't process the order or the prints. I then run the card in my studio and send the prints to may lab of choice.

Or you could use a service like Photoreflect.com and you don't have to pay a setup fee, nor do you have to pay any montly fees for their web edition software.

And it gives you the option of fulfilling your prints anyplace you like. Either through their list of compatable labs (through Labtricity) or fulfill the orders yourself. Because of this you can create any number of custom items.
