Liability for loss of weddings The lab that I use had an electrical fire. Two weddings of mine where there.I don't know yet if anything has survived and won't know for awhile. My clients have a contract that says I'm not liable for damages outside my control.I'm willing to refund all money. This could get ugly.I have no insurance. What can I tell them to lessen their pain and anger? Help!

Hi Lisa, sorry about your dilemma with your wedding pictures. I think a little honesty would be in order. Having done weddings for a long time I understand how you feel. I think I would try to contact the owner of the lab to see if they would be willing to send your client a letter, explaining what happened. This was definetly something you had no control over and if they were a reputable firm they should be willing to help you out. Of course you still have the statement in the contract, that you are not liable for anything beyond your control, but that is of little consolation. Also since you are willing to return their money may help a little. I guess I got lucky, in the 25 years that I did weddings, I never lost one. Stay in touch with the lab and keep checking to see if any of the photos survived. Best of luck to you: Pat

can't tell them anything more than what happened. the lab will compensate you a like amount of film. they won't compensate for what you would have gotten for the wedding.
